Ionopsis paniculata

Lovely, lively and numerous flowers, that's Ionopsis paniculata. It has a syn. name, which is called I.utricolarioid. But these two name are still used as different plants. I.paniculata, as pictures showed here, is with most white and some yellow, light purple flowers. And I. utricolarioid's flowers are obvious pink with some pink-purple lines on lips. It seems to be easy to grow it in my area, but that's my first time to plant it, I'm not really sure it's easy to keep it well for years. Searching informations on internet pages and asking friends, now I know this plant need high air humidlity and enough light. It likes warm to hot temperature, so don't let it get wet in the rain when cool winter season, or it will easily die.
When buying it from the seller, this plant is planted with moss. The seller told me don't drop too much water to it because the plant doesn't like its potting materials too wet (but it like high air humidlity). After back to home, I found the moss was new, just put for a short while, because there is no root into the moss. There are some residually original potting materials, coco fibers. Some roots catch the fibers, and others are to the air. A friend told me this plant is easily grew in Tailand, where is very hot. He suggested me to remove moss, just place the plants to trees or wood frames without any moss or other materials. Of course, such culture way is only suitable to the yard with high air humidlity. Because I can't keep the air always very wet, put it to a flowerpot and stuff some barks to provide stable air humidlity, just like the way I grow Vanda hybrids. If there are some trees in your garden, choose one which doesn't have dense leaves, because it like light (but not direct sun light for all day). Dense leaves would block most light, and that will be too dark for this miniature plant.
