I used
Cooperia drummondii(or called
Zephyranthes drummondii) and
Z. katherinae "Jacala Red" for reciprocal cross, just for fun to see what the results will be. The members in
Cooperia genus bloom in evening with sweet smell, and
Zephyranthes genus bloom in daytime without charming smell generally. Because rainlily are easily self-cross, I had to emasculate stamen and cut the pistil at the day before its blooming day, and pollinated the cut pistil by opposite species's pollen. And after 20 months, the propagation plants finally bloomed recently. Large part of propagation show no change when comparing to their parents. I guessed I failed in this corssing test. But finally I found two plants which show a successful reciprocal cross. Both hybrids bloom in daytime, and are almost without good smell(maybe my sense of smell isn't sensitive). The flower size of hybrids is just between their parents, bigger than
Z. katherinae "Jacala red", and smaller than
C. drummondii.
